Puppy High School

Now that you and your puppy have become a tight training team, it's time to step it up another grade level--In this course you'll challenge your pups with new brain puzzles: Distance commands, long down stays, smooth leash moves, give me your paw, speak and the know-how to be calm, cool, and collected on the street or at your front door. Oh, and did we say you'll learn a lot too?

 

After a puppy grows to be over 5 months old, something happens between then and a year old. Sexual maturity begins, adult teeth start coming in, new discoveries and our puppies turn into little teenagers!! By now we’ve already implanted our puppies with their basic commands, and we get good responses most of the time. However these changes in their life change their behaviors! This is the age of “I don’t know why, but all of a sudden he started digging holes!” or “He’s never been much for chewing, but yesterday, he took out the corner of the couch!”

In Puppy High School, we keep in mind of these changes of puppies coming out of puppy kindergarten or adult dog basics and also focus on BUILDING onto our foundation. A common statement is “He’s awesome at home, and here, however I took him to the park last week and he wouldn’t even SIT!”

        -Adding the 3 D’s to our training. (Distance, Duration, and Distraction.) Can our dogs sit and stay with you six feet away, for five minutes, WHILE a stranger walks around???

        -Combining advance cues to create manners throughout the household. “Waiting” at doorways, before entering vehicles, and to allow others to walk by is an example of intermediate level cues.

        -Also teaching the structure of a “heel” “down stay” and “On your mat” or “go lay down.”

        -Beginning field trips! Training and learning out in a public atmosphere.

       - fun commands like roll over and play dead 

        - of course more socialization skills in this course we will repeat all he has learned without the leash!
